Locking Diesel and DEF Caps

Hey Guys. Have any of you found any type of locking diesel fuel and DEF caps? I have found a Stant locking cap but nothing for the DEF cap. It sure would be nice to find a keyed alike set up. Thanks.

There is NO locking DEF cap. The cap is too small to devise a way to add a lock.

I know this isn't a solution to the problem you are trying to avoid but if someone accesses either of those two caps and contaminates the fuel or the DEF it's considered Vandalism. Insurance pays if you have comprehensive coverage.

Another solution is to NEVER have both caps open at the same time. If I am fueling, I never removed the DEF cap to add DEF at the pump.

Yes, some like to buy DEF at the pumps when stopping at a truck stop. I prefer to buy it by the 2.5 gallon container and add as needed.

I replace the fuel cap after fueling, pull away from the pump and THEN and ONLY THEN do I open the DEF cap to add DEF.

I never have had both caps off at the same time. I'm just trying to discourage someone from filling up a few vehicles with diesel at my expense. It won't take long for a thief to find out that some of these trucks have a 48 gallon tank.

Internal baffles prevent siphoning. These days thieves simply punch a hole in your plastic tank, set their fuel can underneath and walk away. After a bit they come back and retrieve their prize with a minimum of risk on their part.

That's what I normally do. I've never filled up DEF at a truck stop.

My concern is New Jersey, they have a law that prohibits you from pumping your own fuel. The station owners can be fined if they allow someone to pump their own fuel. I try to avoid purchasing fuel in NJ, when I have no choice I jump out and make sure the attendant puts diesel in the diesel tank.

I don’t think I’ll ever mess this up. I put DEF in at home using the 5 gallon jugs. So there is no reason to ever pull the DEF cap off at a station.

Another way to make sure the def goes in the def tank is to get the nozzle from Ford. it locks in the hole and doesn't allow you to over fill the tank and spill it all over the truck.

You can pump your own diesel in NJ, just not your own gasoline. An exception was made in the law for diesel.

That has to be the dumbest thing I've heard in awhile; like the last 2 hours since I keep hearing about all the progressive, stupid stuff that these "smarter than we are" politicians* keep doing... WOW.

*notice the non partisan language there...
