Hey, glad to hear I'm not alone, I'm just starting on a 49 f-3 with almost the exact same situation, chances are he cooked something when he started it off the twelve volt battery. We started mine off a twelve volt, but first stuck a 12 volt ignition coil out of a 70's fullsize pickup just to see if she would run. But we didn't do it for long for this very reason. I'm in the process of trying to find info on the full 12v conversion and will gladly pass along any info I find usefull...
Fergison777 lives in ONT but has a modified '54. I'm in Sask with a '51 Mercury M-3. Since he put a 12v battery in the truck unless it was converted to 12v he probally fried the points so it won't start.
You forgot about me. Now I understand that as I don't post very often, but I'm closer to Guelph tha RMF. Guelph is just up the 401 about 2 hours from the Chatham area.
Mike,
I'm putting a 5.0 Drivetrain in my 55, so I won't be able to help at all. Sorry. Did you get up to the Canadian nationals in Arthur in August. You can connect with me off-line so that we don't clutter up this thread
I knew you were in Ont but I forgot your username. Hey I've never been to Ontario so I don't know where exactly were everything is. I do know where Toronto, Ontario and Carlton Place are though.
Mike I live just down the road from you in Woodstock. I am restoring a 1949 M68 Mercury which is the equivilant of an F3. I would be happy to fill you in on what I've learned in the past three years since I bought my truck. Just contact me through my profile below.

Mike, with regards to your project 52 F-3. We have a Chapter of the Early Ford V8 club based out of Toronto, and our members are always willing to help out with the preservation of the Flatheads, and have quite a bit of knowledge in the field. Look us up in the Old Autos Paper, or give them a call on the 800 line they will direct you to us. Also for what its worth to you I have been running with 6 volt systems for years now, and have had very little problem. A lot has to do with good heavy battery cables, and a good 6 volt battery. I make my own cables from welding cable and soldered battery terminals, works for me.
Great to see that I've got knowledgable, experienced company w/ F3 conversion. Literally just closed the deal yesterday on an '49 F3 M-H. Setting up transportation as we speak. I've done a lot of work on my F4 and with any luck this will be a bit more manageble task. Wire harness and 12v conversion seems to be the resonable start. I'm open to any and all guidance and contributions. I will share pics as soon as the truck arrives.
Regards,
Nick C

Glad to hear of another 52 F3; I think you guys up in Canada got most of them. I am in Minnesota, but my F3 came from North Carolina. Check my gallery for pics. If you need some specific help, I can take some digital pics from my truck for you.
My truck is 12 Volts with a generator. It makes for a nice appearance, but I think I would prefer an alternator, since they can charge at low RPMs.
If you can, post some pics in your gallery, so we can see what you are up against.
thanks for the pics, very nice truck,i now have some hope,i got some parts back from the body shop, just need to send out the cab and box and that will be it for the body, the chassis is a whole different story,i will send out some pics for you soon, thanks again,Mike Wallace.
