I'm going to change gear oil and was thinking of putting the 08 cover on the rear id like to put a finned alum one on the front as well, do they make a shallow one? I don't want to spend 3 bills for a mag hytec. I want to do black with polished fins.
Where is the rear one from ?
I want to replace my original but not break the bank

Its an OE cover. you can order them off Amazon or somewhere like that for around $45. all you need are the proper length bolts. I used a lube locker gasket to seal it up.
There is no reason for a finned and/or larger front diff cover. The front diff will never get warm enough to need the heat transfer. and If you off road the first good smack on a rock will crack the aluminum and drain out all the gear lube. Just keep and paint the OE cover and use the money else where, where it could be better used!
Aftermarket differential covers look nice, but I would be cautious on using them after seeing this video. Gail Banks with Banks Power ran a YouTube series on what aftermarket differential covers do to lubricant flow. Seems like the ones that he tested were far from optimal, and could lead issues down the road
I agree: Front differential doesn't need extra cooling unless you're doing something really strenuous and weird, and then you take a chance of anything that comes along cracking it open (instead of just denting the OE cover). The only vehicle I've ever seen that is a good candidate for front-differential cooling is the GMC Motorhome:
its more bling for me but if anyone wants a finned alum cover that fits, RPC makes them in plain, polished and black you can get them at Jegs I got mine from Ebay for 65.00 from chromedepotwarehouse its the shallow version and it measures just a 1/2" deeper than the stock one.
I like new covers that have drain and fill ports for servicing. But I don't subscribe to it being 'better' than stock but I like the extra capacity of the Mag-Hytec for no other reason than it makes me feel 'better'.
