I have a key but it's not working it won't even go into the cylinder. Any suggestions on how to get it off? I don't even care if I have to drill it I just don't want it going into the gas tank itself. Thanks.
Did ya try spraying everything down with wd-40? Do you have a second key? Did you try to flip the key 180°? Sure you picked up the right key? Not trying to insult your intelligence, sometimes we just overlook simple things.
I assume it worked before and that's how you got it on. Only thing I can think of is soaking it with wd-40 and try to loosen up whatever is stuck.
Or buy a lock pick kit and try to pick the lock if it's a key issue?

All of the above except for the second key thing. I'm about to get the Milwaukee out LOL, just seeing if there's a bush fix in case it happens out somewhere without tools. Minus the screwdriver and Hammer method. There will be no more locking gas caps in my future.

Is the little "flap" not opening or its opening and the tumblers aren't moving to allow the key to go in?
Maybe soak it again with wd-40 or any lubricant and stick a 90 or 45 degree pick in there and try to jiggle things loose.
Yeah my truck came with a locking cap.... it got dented and started to not work.... I bought another locking cap and then decided I didn't like the the thought of it not working... so I bought a regular cap. Yeah around here we don't have a gas theft problem so I'm not too worried.
Maybe try some percussive maintenance and hit it with a hammer a few times lol try hitting the top and the sides... may loosen it up
Tried that too. Lost patience and my OCD kicked in.
I can tell you whats 100% effective, a drill. Popped right off with very little drilling. Just have to be very cautious and delicate with very little pressure.
I had the same problem as I tried to fill my tank at a gas station once. Flat blade screwdriver and a hammer took care of that problem. It just took a couple of medium hits to jam the screwdriver in, little twist on the handle, came right off. Stuffed a rag in the neck to get to a parts store, bought a new non-locking cap good to go. I don't like locking caps either.
Mark.
