Has anyone done a color match spray in bed liner? My bed needs a restoration and I'm considering this route, but I'd like to see it done on a dent. My bed is jade green, and it should be easy to match.
Just Google "color matched spray in bedliner". You'll get pile of ideas. I've been thinking of going same route. Just haven't decided on color yet. Since I have a Lariat I have the two tone brown and tan. Thinking of going with the brown, thinking tan would not be the best for a truck which I actually use the bed for hauling "stuff".
on Amazon. It is tintable and comes with everything you need to apply. Lots of information on Youtube about it as well. I have had red color matched sprayed in my sons Radio Flyer wagon and it has held up great-and he has been hard on this little wagon.
I have sprayed tons of that raptor tintable bedliner in the last two years or so. It's decent stuff, but hard to mix. It comes white in the bottle. You'll need to mix in the hardener and your color, which I'd actually paint basecoat. If you choose to do this on your own you'll have to get the paint and a shutz gun to spray it with. Keep your air pressure low and mask everything off very well if you spray it yourself. That stuff does NOT come off.
The other thing of note is the color difference. The color of the bedliner is usually a bit off of what the vehicle is. Depending on the color and who is mixing it, you can usually get it pretty damn close though.
I found that mixing it the way raptor wants (4:1 ratio of bedliner and hardener), can leave it a bit chunky for my taste. I usually add about 10% paint reducer to it to knock down the "cottage cheese" look.
The tintable stuff is also a bit transparent. I sprayed a yellow 8' bed for a '79 once with it, and it took dang near three or four coats to full cover everything.
I had the bed of my truck done by line-x. DIY liners run about $100 a gallon. They will tell you that you can do a full size bed with 2 gallons but that is not true at all. Line-x did my bed in standard black for $650 and that included all the prep work. They used 6 gallons! No way would I ever do a bed myself again.
I plan to do Line-X. Line-x is very hard and the metal can rot away and it's still pretty strong. I have the 2 tone brown Lariat and the black goes very well with it although I went with Ford kodiak brown so it looks almost black for my body paint.
That looks great! I'm a DIY guy, but this is something I plan on leaving to the professionals. My other concern is rust. My bed floor does have some surface rust and I'm worried it will still continue to rot underneath the liner material. Do they do some sort of prep/treatment before application?
I used the Raptor kit from Amazon as well. It looks great. I used the 8 liter kit on my long bed.
I must say that you better be prepared to do a thorough prep job if using any DIY kit. If your heart isn't in it, then take it to a pro.
This goes for any bed liner, I used the roll on Rustolium kit, a lot of people complain it chips and peels off. Mine has been on for 3 years now, I am not the most gentile with anything, use my truck for bringing garbage and brush to the town dump, picking up lumber and yard supplies, car parts, engines, transmissions, all sorts of stuff, It is still holding up and looking decent, a little faded from when new but no chips or peeling. PREP IS EVERYTHING!! You can put the cheapest or most expensive paint or liner on a crappy prep job and you will have the same outcome. Spend the time cleaning.
Adam: The Line-X guys sand the floor prior to spraying the liner. But, prior to that, my paint/body guy had it bead blasted, primed and painted to protect it while waiting for the liner. So, there wasn't any issue with rust by that time.
I have used Raptor many times in both black and tinted and have always had great results. My F250 has the bottom two tone done in black, my Dakota is done with black and blue raptor, and I did the bottom half of my Jeep with the black, I also did the whole floor of my bass boat in grey raptor. All of it has held up great, and it is easy to apply.
