as I wrote some threads ago, I'm rebuilding my FE 391 engine, that came with C8AE-H heads. The block and heads are from 68, so it seems, they match quite good together. The challenge is, that the valve seats in the heads are very outworn. Some valves have gong quite deep into the engine head. The engine builder says it is possible to rebuild this, but it will cost a lot of money. So the question is, what to do? I can't find good heads of type C8AE-H (refurbished, alternative ones ore good used ones) on the internet, at the moment. It seems, that there might be some alternatives from Edelbrock, but they cost a lot as well.
Can you give me some hints about:
What type of alternative heads can be used (Edelbrock, Ford FE of other type)?
Does someone know about good C8AE-H heads?
Anything else, that helps me to get the old one refurbished?
As I live in Germany, the challenge becomes quite harder :-(
You would probably get a better response posting in the FE forum. But from what I know all of the non high performance FE heads for 352 thru 428 were pretty much the same and will bolt right on. I'm guessing the seat recession you mention is only on the exhaust valves, if so installing hard seats should not be that expensive. Around here it is $120 for all 8 exhaust valves and that includes the new seats. That C8AE-H casting number sounds like it might be a C8AZ-6049-A head. If so they are as common as rocks and fit everything from a 352 to 428. I think you should get a firm estimate of the cost to rebuild the heads you have before you spend as much on shipping as those hard seats are probably going to cost. But here is a link to some heads.
