How to convert 57-60 to intermittent wipers

Several years ago I created a "how to" in the old gallery system that is now gone, so I decided to try to recreate the original "how to" here. I did the conversion using a wiper motor from a 1983 Ranger and a intermittent wiper switch from a 1979 F150.

Original wiper motor and Ranger motor

Original mounting bracket

linkage where it connects to the motor. Original, you have to modify the small cam arm.

I cut a plate from 16 gage steel

Drill holes in the new plate to match the Ranger motor. Cut holes in the original bracket big enough for a socket to fit.

welded it to the original bracket, at the top and through the original holes

Paint and bolt up to the motor

Modify the linkage cam arm to match the D profile. I drilled it out, added some weld to one side and filed it to match.

This is from a 1979 F150. 57-60 ***** work great

There are 6 wires on the black plug. 1) One black going to the red plug thus to the switch- hook up the power supply. 2) Another black going to the "box" - hook to the black wire from the motor. 3) Red going to the "box" - hook to the red motor wire 4) White going to the "box" - hook to the white motor wire 5) Blue going to the red plug thus to the switch - hook to the blue motor wire 6) Black with a white tracer going to the red plug thus to the switch - tis is for a washer if you have on

Mounted in the truck

Linkage hooked up

Works like a charm. Wipers park when you turn them off and you now have intermittent as well. Hope this helps if someone wants to convert.

This is awesome! Thanks Walston. I recently put wipers on my truck and the function is horrible so I think this is a great fix!
