Can anyone tell me the width of a dually outside of the tires? I think my pickup just did the same as Glenn's did and broke a piston. It's sitting about 80 miles away so I can't get a measurement. A measurement from the outside of the inside dual would be great too. My brother in law has a new trailer that is 84 between the fenders and if I needed to pull the outside duals off and it would work that would be no problem.

Thanks.
Oh gosh. Not good. I was just thinking about you the other day Darrin.
The fronts fir between my lil 5k trailer. No idea on rear width...yet..
I just measured my 94 F350 dually. Outside of outer duals was about 87 inches. Outside of inner duals was about 67 inches. And my best at measuring outside of hub to hub was 78 or 79 inches. Hope this helps.
94" outside to outside and 73" outside of inner dual to outside of inner dual. I'm still shocked about this happening to you. I'm been on here over 14 years and have never heard of this, now two?!
Might be the source, makes sence. Whats your oil temp when towing your 5th? Could it be that one of your piston colling jets is clogged or a more common but not common thing to happens is they brake off, the OEM pnes are just pressed in. I went over and over thinking if i should of welded mine and said if they lasted this long.....
Thanks for measuring for me guys. I appreciate it. I should be fine just pulling off the outer wheels.
My oil temp got extremely high memorial weekend coming home. Ive used it a few times since then with no problem but maybe I did some damage then. I don't know.
My wife keeps saying I did it pulling the camper out of the mud a few weeks ago. I admit I did get after it pretty hard and hit the fuel limiter or what ever you call it. I've done that before checking out tunes, IDK.
Adam, I run just water, no meth. Should have said that above.
I'm really curious to see what these 2 failures wind up being. I know both trucks tow more than I prob ever will . Maybe something can be learned from it?
I will let you all know what happened Aaron. I plan on more than likely pulling my motor this weekend. I'm going to rebuild it myself.
Glenn, it was 105 outside with a hot wind. I figured I'd try to run in drive at a higher rpm for a bit when I left the track. 2800 ish. I looked at my oil temp 10 miles down the road and it was buried at 300. I don't trust that gauge a lot as it is a glowfish. Once it came down it went from 300 to 230-240 instantly, but it was up there for sure.
I need to order a compression checker for this so I can check it this weekend along with a cylinder contribution test I will do.
I'm going to get my truck and trailer this afternoon. We will pull a trailer with dad's v10 to haul my truck and my brother in law is going to pull my trailer back with his 6.4. The guy that owns the mechanic shop in town is a pretty good friend and I'm sure he's got a compression checker for a 7.3 he will let me borrow.
Its home. Maybe a little testing tomorrow after work, then I'm sure the tear down will commence on the weekend. I may look at some piston options, I wouldn't mind something a little better. Gonna do some shopping.
