Yeah I was heading out of town for the weekend on Friday towing my 5th wheel. Jumped on the freeway and got stuck in rush hour traffic. After a couple miles the speed started to pick up. I gave it some throttle and boom! I was able to limp off the freeway and pull down a side road. I opened up my storage compartment and grabbed the spare I’d been carrying for a couple years. Pulled the old one off and replaced it. Took about 15 min and we were back on the road. The only reason I had the spare it because of this forum. Thanks to all who posted the issue with it. Truck is a 2013 with 47835 miles.

Glad you were ready for it! Consider the H&S replacement so you don't have it happen again...

I’ve been carrying around a Rudy’s replacement for a while. I need to get off my tail and change it at my house, instead of on the side of the road.

I sprang for the Mishimoto version because I read here that the early Rudy kits had fitment issues that required relocating the power steering reservoir and didn't want to take the chance. For those of you with the Rudy's kit does it offer a lifetime guarantee like the Mishimoto?

FWIW guys I took a look at the CAC tube on my '17 after reading this thread and it is a single piece black rubber hose. No hard plastic. Not sure if it can retrofit to prevoius year models, but looks like the right shape based on the pics I've seen of replacements.

You are mistaking Rudy's and other kits that require PS reservoir relocating. Rudy's does not require any relocation. I forget which one does, but it includes a bracket to move the reservoir.

The original H&S CAC upgrade for the OEM trucks made you relocate the power steering reservoir. It is only move 1.5" and mine has been no problem at all. Still happy as I don't have to worry about it popping at the worst time again.

I realize it might look that way from a quick glance but no, it's not all rubber. The end that fails (connects to the intake with a clip ring) is identical on the 17+ as the previous years. Ford updated the part of the pipe that is not the usual point of failure... I've changed mine to the H&S and am worry free now...

OEM vs. H&S

Following along as I just joined the club yesterday, same story as OP, merging onto turnpike with loaded rv and family and KABOOM, only I was not prepared. Need to spend more time in these forums, could have been prepared. Limped to a local ford dealer and got back on the road after a 395$ bill. 270$ for hose plus labor. Any idea how long I should run this new one? Looks like consensus is to go ahead get the H&S on hand for when this one goes. My truck is bone stock, is it worse if you are deleted/tuned?

This is getting ridiculous, 6.7 is turning into an expensive motor: Egr cooler, egr valve, vacuum oil lift pump gasket, CAC hose........

$270 for the hose? Man, dealers can just make up their own pricing sometime. Full MSRP retail is only about $160. Installation, even for me who had never done it before, only took about 10 minutes. If you get an aftermarket replacement, I wouldn't wait until the new one goes. I'd install it before it goes again. You never know where it might put you on the side of the road. If mine happened a couple days later, I would have been going through Chicago at rush hour.
