Hey everyone I'm a newbie here and I'm sure everyone will direct me to search countless threads for what I'm looking for but to save time I'm terrible at this and I've been searching for weeks on this. I just bought a 99 SD v10 blown up, I tore it down to bare block and rebuilt it from ground up. Long story short it runs fantastic!! Downfall is it has 477k miles on it and the tranny is tired, it shifts perfect but needs tc, I want to do a 5 speed swap but can only locate a 2x4 tranny right now and funds are limited as it is. I'm trying to find out if the 2x4 tranny will work for me and what I'll need to make it work. I'm pretty knowledgeable with most of it but have never had a reason to know this type of issue. I know in my dodge I had to change the tailshaft in the transfer case because it was shorter, but is it that simple with the fords? I haven't even seen the tranny to know if it has a removable rear housing. I wouldn't mind keeping it auto but it's a gutless turd and for the amount of time and money I put into the motor it should run like a wh*** in church. But it won't get out of its own way and it's VERY frustrating. I had a bad pcv valve that was killing the performance but resolved it quickly when I checked my fuel trims and saw how whack they were. But bottom line is I need the v10 power everyone loves but I'm losing it in the tranny, so I figured 5 speed swap that way I know I'm not slipping or anything else. Thanks for the help if any.
