hello everyone, as I listed in the title a 1990 F150 4.9L straight 6 i believe we have an issue with the EGR Tube or as some other places refer to it as the exhaust to manifold tube.
what started off last spring as a slight exhaust tick has become an issue with exhaust fumes into the cab of the truck. We took the truck to our local exhaust shop who we have been doing business with for many years and they narrowed it down to the tube but they don't do this type of repair. I've been trying to locate this EGR tube but only come up with results from Summit Racing for 6cyl Broncos and E-series vans as well as some for the V-8's.
if you click on the applications tab you see a list of vehicles
I know the V-8's won't fit. if anyone knows what are the fitment differences between the 6cyl Broncos and the E-series vans? would it be the length of the tube or the nuts that attach?
I have not tried to remove the tube yet (have been waiting on weather and time to get into it) the truck isn't used very often but it does serve a purpose for us.
if i can't find a replacement I've watched videos where the bad section has been cut away and a new piece of pipe welded in so that may be on the table of options.
i appreciate everyone taking the time to read through this as welcome all thoughts, opinions, advise and comments.
There should be absolutely zero difference between those vehicle fitment listings for your truck. That EGR tube should fit your 1990 as well as a 1995 F150 w/4.9L engine. Same question came up recently: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...rt-number.html
rla2005...thanks for the info. i don't know why your link didn't not come up when i searched the forum for info, i must have spent 30 minutes looking thru different threads.
well anyway the Doorman 598-105 is ordered and on its way.
Ford did change the design of those EGR tubes. They eliminated the accordion section which is where they usually fail. But as far as I know they are backward compatible, because no other dimension between the throttlebody and exhaust manifold (or lower intake for the 5L) changed. That may be why the fitment listing is wonky.
