'48/'52 window crank handle - how to remove black ****?
Hi guys,
I have an inner door handle that has a black **** that is stiff and hard to turn. The truck has been sitting for 50 years - no wonder.
I polished up the handle, but can't get the **** loose. (heat and oil didn't work)
I have a donor handle that is very pitted but the **** is almost perfect. How do you remove the *****? I'd like to make one handle out of two.
I cant remember if there is a small hole on the 'underside' of the ****/handle.
If there is, just use a small punch to knock out the knurled chrome pin holding the **** to the handle.
I have two words for you. "Hack saw". Or is that one word????? That is like vice-president Joe Biden a few years ago. He said in a speech, "The answer is a 3 letter word, Jobs, J-O-B-S."
they are pressed on, you can use a 1/8 drift pin and carefully knock them out...... use a vise to push them back in.
That was the winning ticket. Worked like a charm.
The 1/8" drift pin was perfect to knock out the knurled handle pin from the backside. I then knocked apart the donor handle and put one good set back together, again using your tip to use a vise to re-assemble.
I'm back in business.
I should have taken a picture of what the handle pin looks like for this thread but I was so excited to put it all back together it was done in five minutes.
