Hi everyone. So i've gone through these threads couple of times. And I recently bought a 1972 Ford F100. And I have a dilemma. In September, I will be leaving for college. It's an 8 Hour Drive that I will be commuting in the truck. I want a better ride quality and a lot of people post about the crown Victoria suspension swap. I don't want to do the frame swap because I still like to have the bed. My problem with the suspension swap is, I don't want to hack the frame. I also want to keep the rims I have on the truck and I'd have to buy new rims. I was wondering if there is a way to get a better ride with the twin I beam suspension, as well as the brake conversion for the front. I haven't been able to find the disc brake conversion for the front if you guys could help me out that would be great. This is my truck, it's a 72 F100 manual steering power brakes air-conditioning long bed single cab 302 V8 with the T 18 transmission. I like the stock height mainly because then I know I'll be good for off road. If some one can help me please, that'd be great. I bought the truck for 500 and am willing to put the money into it.
Welcome to THE Forum. Nice looking truck you have there. And for $500? Now that was a good deal! Check out the "Stickie Notes" and Read This First stuff at the top of the forum thread page. You'll find information there about conversions and mods. Some of the easiest would be shock replacement, rubber suspension replacement, and sway bar install.
For the disc swap, read the Tech Info Compilation sticky.. then find either find a donor or go with Scarebird's disc conversion which uses their brackets, 90s GM truck calipers, 90s 2WD Dodge rotors....
In terms of suspension, Moog progressive front coil springs and Monroe Gas Magnum or KYB shocks. Remove any overload leaf springs in the rear.
If you can find an OE 75-79 Dentside anti-roll bar system then add that to the mix... it makes for more spirited driving and handling.
I installed a '77 front disc brake suspension on my '69 F100 short bed Ranger and a front swaybar from a '78 F250 Camper Special.
I installed new Moog tie rods, steering linkage, kingpins/bronze bushings and Moog CC808 progressive rate front coil springs.
....I had added a power brake booster (2012) before I did the front disc conversion (2014) but, I swapped out the cast iron MC for a 'modern' MC ('95 Ford Explorer) at the time I put the front discs, power steering, tilt wheel column on nearly 4 years ago.
