Hello all I purchased a steering wheel with cruise control switch 2008 f250 & the connector that plugs into clock spring is a 16 pin, but the socket a 12 pin. Can I rewire the old connector by pin #'s ? & would it affect any systems negatively ? Thank you for your time Regards
This is a schematic of the cruise control switch from a 2011-2016. I am posting it as an example of possibly the switch you bought. Ford uses resisters to vary the voltage/signal to the ECM/PCM to preform certain functions. I suspect the 16pin switch is similar to this schematic.
So, I highly doubt you re-wire the 16 pin to make it work in the 12 pin socket of yoru truck.
Ford parts shows two different switches, with and without redundant control, switch #4 in the diagram.
Thanks for your response. I cant find a 12 pin harness, ford wont sell them buy the whole wheel they say... the 16 pin connector is only using 8 conductors. Id like to find a pin out of the 2008 clock spring to see code colors to match pin out. I tried to do this on the cheap & once again I got bit.
