Hello all. I have a new to me 2012 F250 with 106,000 miles. I truck the truck to my mechanic and had an oil change, fuel filters and coolant flush done last week. I was driving today and the dash chime went off and saw the red "stop safely" warning come up with the CEL lit. When i pulled over, the truck died and would not restart.
I scanned for codes using the Edge CTS tuner and I came up with P2291, P200c and P200e. I am thinking it is one of the egt sensors but what throws me off is the P2291 code.
Does anybody have experience with the egt sensor throwing the P2291 code?
If it is a sensor, how do I know which one to change?
Also, are the sensors interchangeable? I read there were 3 or 4 sensors and i want to keep a spare.
I let the truck cool down and drove it home (2 miles) and took it for a test drive and all is fine now.
Thanks.
You may still be under the extend warranty(15M02) Ford provide to trucks for the EGT sensors. EGT sensors have warranty coverage - Your truck might be eligible for program 15M02. It extends coverage for EGT sensors for 11 years or 120,000 miles. You should take the truck to the dealer for repairs or at least contact them to see if you are covered or create an Owner's account for your truck. The owner's account will also tell you if your truck is covered. You also may be eligible for a refund for related repairs or for the parts you purchased. Also, you can see if covered using the Ford app on your smart phone - FordPass.
All 4 sensors are the same. You might also need the truck flashed to the latest PCM/ECU code to help handle the EGT sensor problems. The flashing of the PCM/ECU is not covered under the extended sensor warranty.
My guess would be if the codes are still present then it should be covered. I'd think when they (Ford) hook up IDS I'd bet they update the pcm so I would not outright request it as then they will want you to pay for it.
Sounds like the previous owner ignored the free flash that was offered.
Sounds like good advice, I was going to take it to the normal shop but now I am taking it to the dealer.
Does anybody think they will void the extended warranty on the egt sensors because of the tuner?
I have an Edge Evolution CTS tuner, it came on the truck when I bought it. I did take the tuner off when the truck went in for service. The dealer came back and said it had a bad EGR sensor. I think it was bank 1 sensor 2 if that helps anybody. After reading on here, I have a new sensor on order and will keep it in the glove box.
