Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me. With all the talk of egt sensors failing and putting the truck into limp mode I am trying to figure out a way around the problem for reliability with out tuning the truck. where I do most of my driving we are about 2 hours away from the closest Ford dealer. If I was to buy an Edge monitor and it did throw a code and cripple me could I clear that code long enough to get to help? I know they just extended my warranty for the sensors but it doesn't help me if I am stranded
Thank you for your input
What year is your truck and how many miles? If you got the latest flash (they sent a letter out, its a TSB) a bad egt sensor does NOT put the truck in limp mode any longer. I drove around with one out for about a month before I had time to run it by the dealership and get it changed out - which was covered under the new warranty. So make sure you have that flash and no tuner is needed.
I've read about changing your own sensors but I have a hard time thinking it would be that easy, especially after I've spent 4 hours on a muddy road and laying under my truck in the dark! I would rather take it somewhere and have them deal with it
When it meant being able to drive home vs. not being able to drive home, I'm sure you would figure it out. I've never had to change one, but they are all fairly easy to get to. I have a flashlight with me for the occasions when something goes awry in the dark.
If you are always in cell phone range, getting help is easy. When you are not, it gets little more difficult.
I agree that it would be better to be able to just drive somewhere to get it done, which is now possible. It wasn't earlier though. In fact, when I was in Miami in Feb. there was a guy with a 6.7 Superduty stuck in a parking lot from a bad EGT sensor.. If he had the part, I would have helped him get on the road, but he didn't have one... So the dealer towed it.
