Driver door lock!!?
Driver door lock!!?
Ok I've seen many posts and I know my "new" lol 47 doesn't have a lock on the driver side and does on the passenger...but like an old Chevy...Can I lock it!!? Is there a secret way before I exit the keyed passenger side!!? I've looked but can't find anything not sure why one side would lock if the other can't? Does locking the passenger side lock both some how....HELP!

You can only unlock the passenger door from the outside if you locked it with a key on the outside. If you lock the door from the inside then shut it, you will be taking out the rear window to get back in.
Yes I get that and know I can lock the passenger side but how do I lock the drivers door? I can't find anything or any mechanism to lock it on the inside to even give me a reason to smash out a window.
We often have valuables that we can't always bring with us like expensive photo equipment.

Like bernette said ^. Push the inside driver's door handle forward then shut the door.
The original design was to push the inside driver's door handle forward to lock. Then, slide over and get out the passenger's door and lock it from outside. There was a lot of parallel parking back in the '40's and you could get out on the sidewalk.

glad I fount this site...maybe after this I'll try to figure out the crazy heater lol!
One thing nobody has mentioned, there should be a little spring steel squiggly thing on the mechanism inside the door where the inner handle is. When you push the door handle forward, it will stay put, the squiggly thing puts tension to hold in place. They can break, so there is no detent to feel when you lock the door.
One other thing, I have seen this before, originally the door handle should be at about a 11 o'clock position on driver side door unlocked, about a 1 o'clock locked. Sometimes when the handles are removed and replaced folkd install them facing downward.
