I just rebuilt and installed a 302 h.o. with a computer that came with the engine into a 94 f150 and it wont start. Ive set timing as i was taught which is set number 1 cylinder to TDC on compression and drop distributor in so its pointing to number 1 spark plug wire, i lined up the timing marks on the timing gears, it gets spark, fuel, and compression but yet still wont start all it does is occasionally backfire while cranking.
Put the factory truck computer back in it and start it. If its a true HO then its a mustang engine, and if its a matching computer, its a mustang computer. And a mustang computer won't run a truck, they are wired differently.

What is the 5.0L HO out of? Are you using the engines (donor 5.0L HO) correct ECM with the truck's wiring harness?
It was originally a truck motor that has been cammed by the person i got it from and he said it had an h.o. cam and i installed the wiring harness and computer that came with the engine. I am not sure if it is a h.o. computer or not but the person i bought it from said it ran with this setup but needed rebuilt due to a knock.
OK, you need to find the calibration code on the EEC and find out what it is. Typically, you never use the harness that comes with an engine. You use the truck harness.
Not only may the firing order be incorrect, but if SEFI rather than batch fire, the injectors may not be sequenced correctly.
Was the cam FORD or aftermarket? HO means to me it is a FORD OEM cam. He might have put an aftermarket in it and is referring to it as an HO (HIGH OUTPUT).
Have you checked the firing order?
...whew...
Try and find the CALIB CODE off the truck VECI decal and the Component I.D No. from the donor ECM (as shown previously) and see if NUMBER DUMMY can make heads or tales of it.

Remove the harness and computer that came with it and put your original truck harness and computer on, then wire the spark plugs for the HO firing order. Should be good to go.
Loosen the distributor and rotate it clockwise a little(looking at it from above), and try again. Once you get it running you will have to set base timing correctly with a timing light.
