Can I just take the line off the fuel filter and jump the relay for the fuel pumps and just wait till the tanks are dry? Blew the rear end of this truck, engine leaks oil and coolant and other problems. Already took off the new parts I put onto it and saving them for my f250 that has the same motor and tranny. Not ganna drop 2k or more when I bought a nice and strong running f250 for 1500
Craigslist? Sell it there for scrap price (250.00 or so). Someone will be happy to replace the rear end, fix it's leaks, etc.
I'd give 250 if I were anywhere near you.
I thought about going that route. I'll probably push it to the roads edge and put a for sale sign with what's wrong. Any idea on how to remove the gas though? I could sure use it
Can I take the filler neck off to get in there without spilling any gas? It's a half tank. I tried putting a hose in there but after making the bend in the filler neck it isn't bendy enough to get in the tank. It's the mid ship tank
I'm not sure if you can get to the tank with the filler neck off with the bed still on. I have siphoned gas out of the front tank of our 89 several times, I've always used thin flexible hose though, maybe yours is not flexible enough to make the turn?
I know on my 94 its impossible to get the filler neck off the front tank without either dropping the tank down a good ways, or removing the bed.
Also, when siphoning I use my HVAC vacuum pump to start the siphon. Keeps nasty crap out of my mouth and it starts the siphon really fast, just have to be careful not to let it get sucked into the vac pump. Comes in handy for when you have to start and stop the siphoning several times.
I'm admittedly a redneck, and I live dangerously often. If you consider that Gas doesn't ignite in a liquid state, then this isn't so risky.
That said, if I were scrapping this truck, and didn't care about the integrity of the gas tank, I'd center punch the corner of the tank with a sharp punch or screwdriver, and catch the gas in a bucket. (1/2 tank is going to be 10 gallons or so)
If you're sure going to scrap it, punch a hole in a low spot of the tank, just like the tweaker meth-odists do. Collect in a trash bag. Wear wife beaters and greasy jeans to complete the effect.
You could "just take the line off the fuel filter and jump the relay for the fuel pumps and just wait till the tanks are dry". It'd take an hour or so though, depending on the strength of the pump and the battery.
So I had a friend say he wants my truck as a parts truck. Decided not to put a hole in the tank or scrap it. I decided to drop the tank but what I noticed while I was lowering it was I could put the nuts near the lowest the threads before the tank comes off and there was room to tank the fuel pump assembly out and put a hose in there. Hooked up a batter and my old high pressure pump and it's draining now. I have a couple 2 gallon gas cans a a couple 5 gallon gas cans. I'm laying under the truck now
