So the truck is missing a few pieces of trim already and some others are dented and look like crap. Thinking of removing all trim and leaving it that way. To remove the trim clips do I grind them off? Once it's all removed welding the holes and smoothing it out. Is there a better way to remove the clips? Any thoughts and suggestions?
Every single rivet/stud you grind off or twist off has to be welded, its a must for sure. Tig welding them is best but be careful not to warp the panel when welding. GOOD LUCK.
I opted to go without trim on my CC because finding the CC specific pieces would have been a pain The replacement bed I purchased had the trim studs and I had to grind them off and weld up the holes.
Still not done painting but this gives you an idea of how it looks.
I'm both de-trimming, and trimming. My F250 has the hideous (in my opinion) race track trim which must go. I cut all the trim rivets that hold those on with a cutoff wheel and ground the rest smooth with a 1/4" die grinder with a roloc disc. The holes where the clips snap in must be welded closed. Bondo is NOT an option for sealing holes (attn: previous owner of my Bronco). 😞
I'm keeping the thick upper trim though, so I've had to add rivets to my replacement fender and tailgate. That itself is becoming quite the operation.
