In my '84 the trim above the windsheild was held in place with clips similar to the outside. A thin blade run under the trim will locate the clips, then press in on the clip and the trim will be released.
That's the way I remember it. It has been a couple of years and a few beers since then. I hope this helps get you in the right direction.
