What new crate engine to swap on my 79' manual F250 4x4?
My 79' dent is a dream, it goes smooth and solid but... I'd like to have a stronger motorplant, what crate engine would you advice as a direct swap, something around 400HP but still pretty reliable...
Riddle me this.. Will you be satisfied with 400hp for the life of the truck? (That power bug is always eating on some ppl lol) And is it originally a 351m/400 or 460 truck?
400 hp is not asking for a lot if you don't mind the gas mileage. Big cubic inches. Warmed over 460. At 400 hp, super reliable. Streetable. Low rpm and not a lot of money. Having it built will save a bit over a crate. Blocks where I'm at are a dime a dozen. For 400 hp not even a lot of hi performance parts. Zero decked block, 9.5 to 1 compression. Iron heads with a little work. Stock rotating assembly. A good carb and the basic upgrades, intake, headers etc. Custom ground cam. I'm in about 5k for mine. 650 hp. Little too much. If you have the money and want something boxed and ready, check out carsbycarl.com.

It's a 350m and, yes, I'll be happy with 400hp with a good few years...

I'd need a bolt on application, I don't think I'd find anyone reliable to build a Ford engine for my pick up over here (Spain).
I've already contected the above company for an advice and a crate offer, thanks.
