So since the 1 Dec 2016 issuance of the API CK-4 and the impending CJ-4 phase out, I've been on the hunt for a replacement full synthetic oil for my 2016 Super Duty CC. For the past week, I've been in discussions with a local distributor, who happens to be a 3rd Party warehouse and distributor for Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc., they are the makers of Duron brands among others. According to the approved list of motor oils which is contained in one of the attachments to this thread, Duron UHP 5W-40 is an approved API CK-4 formula. I've include the technical data sheet, the Ford position statement, and the approved list. Now I realize some of this data has already been shared, but I thought it might help to put this in one post with all the attachments to support the thread.
Now, I've secured a purchasing deal with the distributor to buy 5 gallon pales at a preset price per gallon. At this time, the volume of sales of this particular product doesn't warrant the distributor getting a volume discount, but they have offered it at what I think is a fair price. They have assured me that if in fact we can get the volume up, they will negotiate a price reduction and would start stocking it regularly. Locally, I can get free delivery, yes free delivery with as little as a 10 gallon purchase. I've already setup and account to purchase my first 10 gallons, but plan to pick up the first delivery in person to further negotiate pricing and inventory stock. They have also offered to ship to "friends" for the cost of freight as a separate line item on the invoice.
So, what am I driving at? If there are members within a decent range of Nashville, say within 60 miles, I'd be willing to negotiate further for a larger bulk buy or pass along your information for you to do the negotiations yourself, I'm making nothing on additional volume. I am at a benefit if others by and there volume of sales increase enough for them to negotiate lower per gallon pricing.
Just wanted to add that this isn't limited to people in a short driving distance to Nashville. In practice, someone else could order the oil, pay for the freight, and the only difference in what we pay locally is the cost of freight.
I have been using Schaeffer's 9000 5W-40 full synthetic, it is still CJ-4 and they told me it would be available for a long time. Schaeffer's is the oldest oil co in America. I get better fuel mileage using this oil over Delo, Rotella and Valvoline synthetics. It's not cheap but with the investments we have in these trucks it's cheap insurance in my opinion. They do have a semi synthetic 7000 also CJ-4.
Yep, I looked at Schaeffer's, didn't see it on the new approved specification list from Ford. I'm having quiet a time sourcing 5W-40 oils on the approved list. Considering that many companies are already producing CK-4 formulas, I'm hoping that there is a decent supply of CJ-4 out there still for usage.
I personally use the Amsoil Signature Series Max-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil 5W-40 for my truck. It meets the old and new standards. I didn't see it on the Ford approved list, but I have had great luck with the Amsoil and they have their own warranty over your engine if something happened due to a lack of lubrication. Just my $.02.
Rotella T6 used to be CJ-4, but the newest stock is all CK-4. There will be CJ-4 still in inventory supply chains, but eventually it will sell out. It's way to much to post here, but read up on how API's work. In short, CK-4 is the next iteration of CJ-4 and while API states it meets or exceeds CJ-4 specifications, as posted in the statement attached, Ford has found with respect to its engines that in general CK-4 does not guarantee the wear protection they deem necessary, thus the approved list of oils, also attached in this thread.
Per Shell, Rotella T6 is only CJ-4 if it's in the old style jugs. If it's in the new style, it's CK-4 even though it still may say CJ-4 in the API donut.

Which is the biggest bunch of bull. Just so that they could get a jump on the market... Welp, Shell... You are losing customers over this, because now I can't trust what's in your bottles.
I was fortunate enough this past weekend to find 3 - 1 gallon jugs and a quart bottle of the old T-6 with only CJ-4 listed. I suspect that I will change to Valvoline Premium Blue for subsequent changes. I found the gallon jugs at Tractor Supply, and the quart bottle at Walmart.

Yes, it's quite unfortunate for those of us with Ford diesels as according to Ford's position statement, it was determined that Ford DOES NOT recommend CK-4 in ANY of their engines. But as I stated earlier, this is to cover the CK-4 API in general, that doesn't mean that there aren't CK-4 options. It just means that of the dozens of formulas that they tested, only the ones on the approved list contain the recommended wear protection, particularly phosphorus content.

I spoke with the distributor yesterday afternoon specifically about members here that didn't live within the local area of Nashville. He told me he would be willing to either 1) Contact other distributors in member's areas and see if they would honor the price he was giving me. 2) Give the member the contact information of the distributor so that the member could make their own dealings. 3) If volume to a specific area or region was at a "decent" rate, try and negotiate lowering freight costs.
The more I work with these guys, the more I am being convinced that they are customer focused and want a good reputation. I'm still researching results from testing on the Duron UHP 5W-40 and I haven't found any negative results or information as of yet.

Exactly. I've been running Shell Rotella for a long time.
I returned 4 Gal of T6 and switching over to Premium Blue Extreme. Not sure if I'll go back.
