They snap onto the oil distribution tube in the valve chest, see below. Between the valves for #1 and #2, and between #3 and #4.

I've never really been clear on the need for those, or what they do. Certainly doubt any harm has come to your engine by running without them. They just clip onto the tube, pull the intake manifold and snap them on.

I doubt new ones are available, so I doubt he put new ones on.

They are listed in the parts manual as 6524-Oil Baffle. Probably just keep oil from spraying up into the valve train excessively.

Ok..thanks..makes me feel a little better..waiting to hear back from my engine builder guy..wife asked me "how do you know if he put new pistons in that thing"..humm
Ok but I can see those..should have had the engine bench tested..ok more but $$.S.

I'm continuing my project "WITHOUT KNOWING IF THIS ENGINE WILL ACTUALLY START"..
In fact.. I don't know if I can figure out how or if the original distributor will function.

Read get #1 piston TDC etc..but don't have engine running? Spin the crank but don't see pistons moving..timing etc..

Please don't lecture me..just need some guidance as I'm giving this first restoration my best shot..going it alone..little experience. That's why I count on you guys. Thanks

If you're asking how to get the distributor timed from scratch, there was a recent thread on the Ford Barn about that. It should point you in the right direction:
