New Distributor and timing question

New Distributor and timing question
I installed a new distributor today and after pulling the spout and timing it, the mark was just at the top of the 10* BTDC. After putting the spout back in I put the timing light back on it again and the mark is about 4-5 notches to the left of TDC.
I redid the procedure and got the same results. My question is, is that normal? Truck is running good. Thanks Sandy

Removing the Spout allows you to set the static timing.
Reinserting the spark out jumper gives control to the computer, and it sets advance according to sensor input and whatever map it is programmed with.
Yes, this is normal
