Yesterday within the space of maybe 10 miles (max) I saw the info center deal come up that it was cleaning the filter no fewer than 6 times. It's the first time I've noticed something like that. Normally it just comes up once and that's it.
It followed a check engine light a few days ago that came on at start but then went away after a few miles and another restart after I stopped at an ATM.
Any ideas what might be going on? 2011 6.7 (manufactured June of 2011).
Did you maintain a speed faster than 30mph or did you drop below 30mph during this 10 mile drive? Not sure if the new regen strategy changes this to 5mph like the 2016 or not.
The diesel supplement manual from Ford says it will if the speed is too slow.
Regeneration of the diesel
particulate filter occurs automatically
during operation above 30 mph (48 km/h)
and requires no actions from the driver. If
you do a lot of idling or stop and go driving,
pay attention to maintenance messages
that alert you when you need to drive to
clean the diesel particulate filter, or
perform operator commanded
regeneration.
The operator regen is a function that is/was only available on XT/XLT trucks for a cost when ordering the truck. Seems like the cost for the option is/was $250 list. The only other option to do a regen is a monitor or programmer or the Ford VCM and IDS.
I have the Edge CTS2 and have performed one stationary regen. There are a number of prompts to answer before one can do a stationary regen. Cost of the CTS2 monitor (non-programmer) is approx $370 on eBay.
I also have the cts2 and that is the very reason I know speed is not a factor with regen. With both the later program and the brand new program that fixes the regen issue.
One thing about the manual regen is its not something you want to do where the noise of a 747 would be a problem. The fan is on and motor is at 2000 rpm. Also, one thing that will kill a regen is too high of egt's.
I had a similar problem on my 2011 although not as repeatedly as your appears to be coming. Ended up being a bad EGT12 sensor giving bad readings. I don't recall the OBD code it was sending up. If you read the codes, what do you get?
I know low speed will stop a regen because I have watched this happen. Pulled into a rest stop (had to go you know) and let the truck idle as it was in the middle of a regen. Within a minute or two it stopped, will short of completion. I did not put it in park, as rumor has it this will also stop a regen, left it in neutral with the brake on.
I've had regens pop on at stop lights, and I did almost a whole regen in a parking lot with foot on the brake. Soot numbers just dropped like I was driving. Not sure what's different with your alls trucks. Truck must be in drive, not neutral. Tried that once. Also a quick shift to reverse and then back to drive does not effect regen status. On the 6.7's I've had at least.
Interesting stuff. I kind of don't really worry about regens much, other than being infuriated by how much it drops my overall mpg. I just drive the truck. If it stops regen because I'm parked, there's probably a reason for that. I imagine it'll start back up later. In this case, I was just driving down the road, maybe the occasional stoplight, but nothing major. If it's in regen (hard to tell without fancy readers and such since it only tells you when it's starting not when it ends), it doesn't really concern me if I arrive at my destination or pull into a fueling station or whatever. Just drive the truck, it's fine.
I took my truck to my servicing dealer (Jennings Anderson in Boerne, TX) this afternoon. Called ahead by 20 minutes or so, but no prior appointment. They received the truck, got it diagnosed while I waited, EGT sensor 12 "DUE TO DTCP2479. PROGRAM 15M01" on the paperwork. They apparently extended the factory warranty on those out to 120,000 miles (200,000km?) or 11 years, truck only had just a hair under 69k on it. After letting it cool down, they got it swapped out with a new one and sent me on my way. Maybe 2 hours total at the dealership. Glad to have it dealt with, zero cost to me.
Ways exist, if that's what you mean. See the Torq Pro thread for example. I personally don't have anything like that set up, and there's nothing in the normal info screen to say. Maybe in engineering mode, not sure.
