2005 Excursion - Rear Door speakers not playing
The problem we have, however, is that the rear door speakers don't work. I pulled the speakers from the rear doors and tested them in the front door. They both work fine, so it's not the speakers.
I checked the harness in the center console to see about jumping the wires at the rear control unit (seen in other threads on the matter) but that did not help. I did find something odd that I can't seem to confirm.
Below is the harness I have in the center console. I have a question about this....
The harness connects to a plug coming from the center of the lower dash under the carpet. No problem there. I have two other connectors that go to the power port and rear audio control panel. Those are pictured below.
The audio controller plug.
I think the problem is that there are two connectors that don't have a mate. Below is what they look like.
I can't find any harness or wire bundle that may have been cut or spliced into anywhere under the carpet or under the console.
Is there some component that these connect to? An Amp? A DVD changer? Bottom line, I think those two plugs need to be plugged into something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
May not be Gospel, but the guy has never steered me wrong.
I recently replaced the factory tape deck with a DVD player. During the install I was verifying that all my speakers worked to make sure the harness I built was done properly. I noticed my rear door speakers weren't working. I verified the harness and started to think that maybe the DVD player itself was bad so I hooked up the stock unit again. Even with the stock unit hooked up, the rear speakers still didn't work. I ended up running new speaker wire from the DVD player to the doors. Problem solved.
Now I know that my Expedition doesn't have the rear entertainment unit that I believe your Excursion has- all it had was the rear audio controls. My guess is that I lost the rear speakers when I hacked up the rear audio control panel and put an inverter in its place.

The main thing I am trying to figure out though is the additional plugs I have in the harness under the center insole on the floor.
My audio control seems to work in that it will cycle through the stations and go in and out from the DVD/radio etc. problem is the door speakers won't work.
What I am hoping to find out is what was connected to the harness plugs. One of those has a series of wires that I think run to the speakers. So it might be as simple as a harness or secondary amp that has to be run/replaced in there. Ultimately, if I can avoid a retire, that would be awesome.
