Aftermarket deck and stock speakers

Like most of us I have an aftermarket deck in the Ex. Threw it in there about a week after I bought the rig, and it works like a champ. My only issue is when I have it cranked (read, adolescent punk levels), the deck will overheat and quiet down until it cools off. Zero issues if the volume stays down lower, but at that point I can't even crack a window over 50 and still hear the music. Pretty much narrowed it down to the deck being setup/wired as a 4 channel like all aftermarket decks, and the Ex's 6 speakers are taxing the system and making it work overtime until it calls it quits.

My question is how to go about properly eliminating the cargo area speakers? Will just cutting the wires at the speakers work properly? Or due to the complicated setup involving the rear A/V, do I need to go through the rear audio control harness in the center console? My concern with just cutting the wires at the speakers is that the harness will still send power and signal down the line to them, which as far as I know will still result in an overtaxed deck...

Appreciate any input

I'd just unplug the rear speakers and wrap/tape up the wire ends so they won't short out on any metal or each other. That way you can just plug them back in if you ever install an amp to drive the speakers. As long as the circuit to each rear speaker remains open it won't draw any power from your deck and you should be able to throw the other 4 speakers up louder before experiencing issues.

I have my front components powered by an Alpine power pack and the rear 4 powered by the head unit. Works quite well and I can really crank it up. Is your head unit 2ohm stable?

I'll have to double check the specs Technologiq as I'm not sure.

Northwestern, that's kind of what I was leaning towards - I'll give it a shot tomorrow hopefully and see if it works out.

I ran dedicated speaker wires to the doors. When i get the chance the rear panel speakers will be powered off an amp. Along with my sub.
