2000 V10 about 179k miles surging
I know it does not help that I don't have the codes but let me remind you I'm getting my information from my frustrated wife who moved up there with my kids while I'm in San Diego for Military Training. I will be heading that way soon but in the meantime I want to try to troubleshoot it. I asked her to go back to auto shop and get the codes this time.
The truck drives and runs fine now except engine light still on and around 30mph from what I'm being told with the best description possible it surges.
Recent tune up to include wires and plugs. Air filter is good to go. I'm leaning towards fuel filter? maybe bad gas on the travel but if it only does it at certain speeds maybe not. Or Air system like vacuum leak? Possible transmission issue? Not sure if that would cause anything or not.
I will get the codes for you guys hopefully in next day or two.
Thanks.
Also if anyone lives in the Everett or Lake Stevens area and willing to lend a hand that would be greatly appreciated. I would be more than happy to provide my number and we can talk to arrange. Right now she has her sister in law with her to help who knows her way around cars for the most part just maybe not this particular issue.
Get a fuel pressure tester and find out what the pressure looks like.
Harbor Freight's tester works fine - #92699, $19.99 ($15 w/20% off coupon).
After checking the pressure if the filter has never been changed I would start with that.
Our 2002 has clips for the fuel filter, but your 2000 may still have the type that requires a spreader tool which HF sells, too.
Amazon carries the MaxiScan MS300 code reader for $15.
I carry one in each car, works fine for basic code reading and clears codes.
Google's Torque Pro with an android device will give you access to real time data and pending codes for under $10.
Has the MAF ever been cleaned?
Also, check the vacuum hoses, particularly the 3/8" hose from the PCV valve to the intake.
