Kind of an interesting gimmick

Dude is selling his '67 250 for $16,500. Lots of guys think their truck is worth a mint, but this guy has done something interesting: he took a truck in very average (for the west coast) condition, stripped all the paint off the outside and left it bare, painted the inside and covered the seat and dash with leather. Trim is all anachronistic, too.

Pretty:

Not so pretty:

Hey, at least we know he's not hiding any rust.

More pics of the weirdness here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-F-250-F...m=222203922696

Ugh, so now there is NO way to fix all the surface rust and get some paint on it without creating a TON of work.

Just goes to show there is more then one way to ruin anything.

What I would have done if I was going paintless...

that,s not a 67. it is i think a early 70,s truck. it just proves that just because you can do something that doe,s not mean you should. looks like he has been watching Gas Monkey to long. imo.

The hood emblem on the side is for a '67 --no yellow reflector on it. The grille is from '67-'69 (just judging from viewing it from the side). There are no orange wrap around blinker/parking light lenses that would indicate a '70-'72 model. The grille bezel surrounds the blinker/parking light so, it's a '67, '68 or '69 style grille.

The wide beltline trim on the side is from a later model Ford Ranger ('70-'72). Notice the trim stops in front of the bed extension on the bed corner. The bed corner extension also has a 'bump' on the belt line contour. '70-'72 bed beltline contour would be flat with a rectangular hole in that area for the red side marker light to mount into so, the bed is '67-'69.

A friend of mine has a fiberglass body 32 3 window Ford coupe. He saved up a bunch of filings from a brake lathe and "blew" it on the body while the primer was drying. Then he left it out in the weather for a few weeks and then flat clear coated it. You had to look fairly close to see it was a fiberglass body and not a real Henry Ford body. It is interesting to see how many people think it is real steel. Maybe that is what this guy did.

I like that look, but not for $16k.

And that may not be rust at all. Lots of special effects people and artists can make paint look like that, there is an industry built around it.

That looks to be chemically rusted. Heater controls are 67 only as well.

That's what I was thinking. Too brown to be natural.

Yup has all the looks of the makings of Mother Natures work to my tired eyes.

Even looks like some of the light colored paint near the front bumper that did not get removed.

Correct. The giveaway is the heater controls (Ill fitting ashtray. Post '67?):

'67 grille (with added, 70s hood trim):

As you pointed out, lots of stuff from other years. post-67 doors (but with '67 window cranks):

I can't tell whether this is rust, leather or a painted finish on the door panel.

Ironically, the paintwork looks well done and the leather upholstery must have cost plenty. All in all, it's a weird truck. If it wasn't so expensive it would be worth "fixing." Who knows, maybe the perfect buyer will come along and take it off his hands.

Custom is great for who builds it, but it doesn't always become great for everyone else. My truck is getting traditional shiny correct color paint. No way I'd pay that much for it.
