Hood lock for my 72 F-250

I decided to design a hood lock for my F-250. This system is deigned for my truck which has a door lock and alarm. It could be altered for a manual appuclation. I used a Simpson strong tie for the latch arm that attaches to the hood. There is a locking cable and pin that is activated with my alarm or auomatically locks the hood when I start thr truck. I made receiver that holds the cable pin and slides through the hood latch to lock.

Simpson strong tie

Final design of hood latch. The lock pinhole will be drilled when location is determined

Hood latch attached to hood

I used smaller Simpson brackets and clay to mark and get the measurements needed to make the hood bracket

The receiver was machined from a solid block of aluminum then drilled and cut

The pin slides into the catch And the cable mounts to the frame in front of the radiator

The other end attaches to a door lock actuator

That's some slick stuff there. You need to start packaging this as a kit. $$$

Dose that small radiator fan keep it cool enough in stop & go traffic ?

I had run dual 12'' fans when they first came out about 1979 on a super cool rad with no problem while living in the Cailf. low desert summers 112-117* and the 12" fans kept it under 210* even off road driving. And with a cab over camper on back.

Yes the single fan was ok. The picture was taken a year ago since then I have built

a new 390 and put in a new radiator with two 12" fans. I also installed a Saginaw PS pump
Saginaw P.S. Pump

Champion radiator with duel 12" fans

Yea Good clean setup. I also like your hood latch setup.
I was thinking of one kind of like yours setup manual with just a release cable going into the under side of the fender well.

But, I have mind chained lock with a hood trip switch on the OEM release handle for over 30+ yrs and never had any break ins plus the red blinking led light on the dash. Plus The truck Club with main battery shut off switch. And a main gas shut off also.

I run two battery's with my alarm on one it an not the main vehicle battery.
So I'm pretty safe to say but if someone wants in they'd have to go through the door window or the rear slider, but they still could not drive off with it with out finding my gas an battery main switch.

So never felt the needed up dated my hood lock.

Since I already had the door lock system in the truck the cost to add my hood lock device was cheaper than a new battery. My alarm system has a starter bypass can't be started without clearing alarm. But if someone wants it bad enough they wil get it. This will just make it harder. The added benefit of the hood lock it lockes when I start the truck. Don't have to worry about a hood fly up due to safety catch failure.

Oh yes the safety of never having your hood pop open a 60-70 mph is an AAA-plus.

I've had my share of seeing a vehicle coming at ya with the hood up, pretty common thing in the 40's & 50's on two lane like old Hwy of rout 66. as, I remember as a kid on vacation more then a few times with out much shoulder to pull off onto.

Aw the good ol days of not much safety stuff that worked very good just like the safety catch on these truck that only seem to function at low speeds.
