Hello all I have an '01 F 150 super crew 4.6 4x4.
I had my truck in the shop getting pinion and ring gear replaced I broke a few teeth muddin a few weeks ago and while it was there I had the mechanic fire up the truck on the lift just so I could see if I could find where some other noises I had been hearing were coming from and I noticed the driveline from TC to front axle was spinning. I have manual engage cable for front axle so tires not spinning but TC will not disengage.
The 4x4 indicator light is not on in the dash. Its electric TC engage also.
Any thoughts as to why it will not disengage?
Thanks in advance for any help.
The TC motor would have to be in the first position to engage the front drive shaft.
You may not know it's engages with your mods.
The case motor has to turn an internal shaft to cause the front shaft to be engaged as well as an electric gear sync that normally functions to align gears on the fly so grinding does not occur in 4H.
Good luck.
pull the transfer case motor off and set on a bucket under truck, with the power cable attached... run the dash switch back and forth and watch the motor stroke... see if it travels full stroke... see that the rod into the TC also is free to move manually.
