Truck won't start

Have 2000 Ford XLT Extended Cab 4x4 with 5.4. It will not start. Put the ignition in on position and can't hear the fuel pump running. Fuse Okay, Relay OK. Does this year have A Fuel Pump Driver Module? If so, where is it located. I know where they are located on 2004 and up but not mine. If I have to change out Fuel pump, is it easier to pull the tank or the Bed? Help welcome Thanks.

Before that let's start with some easy things. Check to see if the problem is fuel or spark. There are many threads on the forum on how to do that. Get yourself a fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure on the rail. Then report back your findings.

take the bed off?
yea that'd be easier than taking out 4 bolts and dropping the tank.

I've changed a couple of pumps/tanks in these trucks, never taken more than hour or so.

If you can get to the bed bolts and get them loose, and have help or a lift to pick up the bed then that may be easier for you. Whichever way you do it you will need to disconnect the fuel fill tube.

Myself, I like the idea of having the tank out to thoroughly clean out the inside of it and it seems easier to clean it with the tank removed from the truck.

Some people have also been known to cut a door in the bed floor right above the fuel pump. It seems somewhat drastic to me, but that is another way to get there.

Thanks Sam. Being 67 years old, think I will try out this ASE Guy with 30 years experience and A mobile service and see what he can do.

you don't have a fuel pressure module like the 2004 - up.... Your pump runs to build up pressure and you have a regulator under the hood to dump excess back to the tank. There should be a Schrader valve ( like a tire fill) on the fuel rail above the valve covers... find it and push the pin in the center to see if you have pressure... IF you don't hear the pump running for 3 seconds with key turned "on" , that's a problem.
