anyone running adana 60 front with 9" rear in F150
I am wondering if anyone has gone through the effort of swapping a dana 60, converting it to 5 on 5.5" and is still running a rear 9"? I have acquired a 78 Dana 60 front and am thinking of doing this swap and keeping the rear 9". Only reason I'm thinking of this is I have nice tires, wheels, and a build 9" already and I use this truck for plowing my driveway so the kingpin dana 60 would be nice. I have everything needed to do the swap and I have done all the research on what I will need to do to go to 5 lug, just trying to decide if it makes sense.
A Stirling 10.25" or 10.50" might be an easy find and is plenty beef to match your Dana 60 front.
I'm interested in the answer because I have the Stirling but an 8-bolt Dana 44 front myself. But don't want to swap because I'll lose ground clearance with the Stirling.
I actually have a sterling 10.25 on standby, but I've completely rebuilt the 9" with aftermarket shafts, etc. and I love how easy the 9" is to service. In fact I've completely rebuilt the dana 44 too, but since I have the 60 I'm tempted to just swap it in and run it with the 9". I'd like to stick with my current wheels and tires since a good set of wheels and tires in 16's is gonna set me back a ton of cash.
It's been done, both by magazine builds and by jeep guys on pirate4x4.com. You'll just have to look into it more and determine whether the cost of the conversion would be more or less than the cost of buying wheels and etc.
Do you have 15" wheels currently? I've never heard of someone making 15" wheels fit ford 1 ton calipers. The Chevy 1 ton Dana 60 calipers can be ground to fit 15's and those can be adapted to the ford 60 front. All of that plus the 5.5x5 lug hubs may just cost more than the new tires and wheels you would need for the 8 lug stuff.
You can grind the calipers and fit 15's as long as they are steel and have correct backspacing, Iirc 4.5 or less or something is what you're looking for. Don't quote me.
I had a set of boggers for 15's I didn't want to lose when I went to one tons and did some homework in that dept.
But that still leaves you with the 5 lug hub and rotor problem to sort out. I know it's been done, more than once, though.

If you have done all the research and know what it takes, then I am not sure how people on the internet can tell you if it is worth it to you to perform said work.
If you are looking for an opinion of if it would be worth it to me, then the answer is "No".
