Anyone ever replace a brake line at the ABS unit on a pre-'05 Superduty?
On my '01, the brake line that goes from the ABS unit to the right front brake hose had a knick in the plastic coating, and of course, it eventually rotted through. I have a patch (double-flared) in there now, but I would rather replace the entire thing.
The line has a section of braided hose between the ABS unit and the chassis.
Ford lists the brake line for my truck "up to 12/01/00" and then "from 12/01/00" - of course, my truck was made in November 2000, and the line is no longer available from Ford (even checked with NumberDummy, none to be had). The "from 12/01/00" IS still available, but I doubt it'll fit. The ABS unit cuts over on 12/03/00, so I suspect something changed, either fitting size, or location. And I don't really want to risk $80+ to find out.
If anyone has ever changed the brake lines at the ABS unit, do you know what size the ABS unit fitting needs to be? I wouldn't mind using aftermarket parts to piece together a line.
Any other sources of pre-bent lines for these trucks?
I recently replaced all of the brake lines from front to back on my van, bronco and sd except for the rubber lines. I just got brake line and compression fittings from advance and used a tubing bender to make it fit.
I remember one of the fittings being a different size, but I'm not sure what the sizes were. I know the lines I bought didn't have that particular size, so I cut the line and reused the bigger fitting that was already on the truck. I had to do the same thing on my bronco too.

Compression fittings are not safe or legal for use on brake lines. Double flared fitting are the proper way to repair.

I bought a double flare kit at NAPA for about 40 bucks. It works great. Don't use compression fittings for brake lines only for house plumbing.
I used to use compression fittings all the time on other vehicles I will never used again especially on a hydro boost system. I repaired a brake l line on my 01 SD and while pulling a 10k trailer it blew apart at the compression union trailer brakes and gravel trap are all that saved me. Please don't use them
