Working on my rear tank installation and found this in the FPU output line (the 3/8 line). Tank and much of the fittings are missing and a rubber hose rigged connection between the return line 5/16 and the output line 3/8. The PO ran the truck off the front tank for a couple of years. I am piecing all this back together. I used the Bob Gervias article and have the 38 gallon tank and a modified FPU. Trial fitted everything today and it all fit. Waiting on a couple more parts from Amazon and a tool to release the bypass modification. I am hoping the quick connectors are not damaged by the bypass setup. If the connectorsare damaged I plan to use AN fittings and AN6 high pressure line. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Sorry I can't do pictures. Thanks.
Found a interesting site that discusses fuel overflow from the rear tank to the front tank. Seems Ford had a recall on this issue with our trucks with dual tanks. The fix is to install a check valve external to the rear FPU. Yep, the valve in question F3TA-9J274-AA. Hopefully the valve I found on my truck is still working. The site is Car Complaints-Recalls-Problems-Repair-VIN Decoder-Fuel Economy. Not sure if posting the site is a violation of protocol with FTE, if it is I apologize in advance.
Note that F3TA-9J274-AA check valve was a band-aid Ford came out with in 1993 so they would not have to replace all of the FDM in all the fuel tanks in the 1993 trucks that had the HP check valve in the FDM blown out from a bad FPR.
They also replaced the FPR at the same time.
Thanks Bill, I was hoping you would weigh in. I am using a Bronco pump hangar F0TZ-9H307-D (required minor modification) and a Delphi pump from NAPA. The Delphi pump has the pickup at about a 45 degree angle verses the flat pump pickup that was on the Bronco setup. I don't know if the Delphi pump has a check valve or not so I plan to use the F3TA-9J274-AA that is on there now. This has been a challenge for me because everything tank related was missing and this a new experience for me also since I usually work on 60's vintage trucks. Fun so far.
This thread is from 2016. There are a lot of threads on how to properly delete a fuel tank. How you do it depends on which fuel system is in the truck. What are you working on? From what others on here have said the low pressure in tank pump system changed to the high pressure fuel module sometime in 1990.
