Is anyone using this product Fluid Film to undercoat there trucks?
I came across this product and video. I was wondering if any of you have used it or are still using it?? Living in Connecticut with all the crap they put on the roads, I'm thinking this might be a very good idea.
Yes I use fluid film on battery terminals and other parts. I have a gallon in the shop for the underside of my EX, but I haven't put it on yet. I heard great things about it.
I've never used it on a complete undercarriage, but I do use it on battery and plow wiring terminals and I coat brake rotors with it after I machine them if they're going on the shelf as spares. It definitely keeps corrosion away.
I've thought about storing engine components coated with it, but I'm not going to do it until I look into what solvents will remove it from oil passages, etc.
I put it on every spring before we go to Mexico and drive on the beach. The first time I drove on the beach without it I got a nice layer of surface rust on the undercarriage. Now I get no rust at all and it makes the undercarriage look like it was painted with black paint. Does smell like lamp chops for a week or so though.
The Blazer and spare boat trailer we leave in Mexico are parked less than 100 yards from the ocean and they are both disintegrating. Pretty soon we'll be able to check the oil on the Blazer without opening the hood.
Few years ago I pressure washed and sprayed underneath of my F350 when it had signs of minor surface rust on it.
This stuff has stopped any further visible rusting as far as I can tell.
I have also used it with good results on ag equipment during storage.
I use used transmission fluid. It is free. It doesn't smell bad. It isn't black and yukky either. Oh, and did I mention it was free? (And plentiful, with a hungry, hairy, and scary 4R100 to keep alive with regular services.)
Drop the pan of any automatic transmission. Notice how clean the metal parts are inside. All those corrosion inhibiters and additives that are part of the formula of ATF must be doing something effective to keep corrosion at bay, even in an environment where steel and aluminum live harmoniously together.
Been using it for years. Spray it on with a cheap gun at low pressure. Works as claimed. A gallon for about 38 bucks will do your truck 2-3 times. Apply it in the fall and your good. Just power wash the undercarriage, make sure its dry and spray. In a really bad winter when you wash a lot, you might need to do it twice. I put my vehicles on jack stands and remove the wheels. Its pretty easy.
I am in the process of using POR-15 on the chassis of the f350. It takes a while complete this project but makes the frame look like new. Never used the product you mentioned.
