Exclamation Fuel Pressure Issues

Just changed the fuel filter in my '04 6.0, no issues worked just like normal, filter primed truck started, great. Well now myfuel pressure gauge is reading dead 0, I know that can't be right because the truck is running, but noticed my fuel mileage seems about 2 mpg lower all of a sudden. Had R&R Injectors installed about 40k ago, figure it's just a bad gauge but wanted to check and see before messing with the frickin wiring. Also, have had a lot of pressure buildup in the coolant tank, has had head gaskets and studs, anything else it could be besides head gaskets?

PS have had a lot of wiring issues with this truck from the previous owner

Since the 6.0 does not come from the factory with a fuel pressure gauge. I would suspect an issue with whatever aftermarket gauge you are useing.

Pressure build up in your tank is fine, its when it blows coolant out that its too much. When i change my filters my fuel pressure drops only primes to 20-25psi before i start the truck, and slowly climbs to 70-80 psi afterwards and bounces around there. I would suspect you bumped the sender on your fuel bowl test port, as that would be the only place you were at. i went through 7 glowshift senders before i got one that wouldn't die and ping to 100 psi and sit there.. frustrating, and they know about the issue

I used an Isspro EV2 100psi gauge, and have had two sending units die over the last 4 years. It happens, Isspro always mails me a new one for free and it's a 5 minute swap.

I haven't had that luck. I've emailed them several times after mine died at 6 months and never got a response. Ended up buying a new sender from DieselManor.

I had a few of the IISPRO FO sending units go bad over the last 10 years. When the last one went out last spring they sent me a new one as well. During this process they informed me that they had designed a new sending unit and the new design has been working very well with a huge drop in the failure rate. They were able to tell the difference between the two by the color and serial number on the unit. They sent me a new one and all was well in my world again.

Riffraff Diesel sells the new sending units as well. I'll post up a link when I get on the laptop.

Here is the link to the FP sending unit:

Isspro Replacement Pressure Sensor 0-100 PSI

Jack - I called them at 1-800-888-8065 or 503-528-3400. I can't recall the name of the person I talked with but there is someone who tracks the failed units & replacements.

This is a pic of the new one I installed last spring, the older ones were brass colored.

Edit: To the OP, my symptoms were different than yours when the sending unit failed. My FP gauge would jump around then read high when it wasn't bouncing around. But it wouldn't hurt to call them and ask.

It is beginning to blow coolant out, not enough for it to run noticeably low, but it is definitely coming out. I have a bulletproofed egr cooler, I was also wondering if that could be the issue (maybe it needs to be welded again), I am running around 700hp but I wouldn't think that after having studs and head gaskets replaced at around 100k that it would need them again at 194k?

Have you tried a diff degas cap yet?
Stands to reason if it's blowing off too early it would puke.
Here is a good thread that bismic started.

You could also check the FP sending unit voltage. 0-5 Volts DC is the operating range but I don't know if it it would be 5V for 0 psi or 5 volts. I assume it would be 5V for 0 psi but I'm not sure.

I called and spoke with someone, he gave me an address to send the failed one back. I'm almost 100% sure it was all done via phone/mail. I have the emails from when I originally purchased the gauge from Diesel Manor, but no emails with Isspro directly.
