I'm in the process of buying a 2016 SD 6.7 and trading in my 2011 Lariat.
My 11 has 48K on the Clock, and I recently installed new Nitto Rubber, and Bilstein Shocks. The Carfax report is perfect as is the Condition. The Dealer is offering me $32K, plus 75,000 Miles of free Sched. Service on the new 16. I am wondering if the offer is fair. I still owe about $4K on the 11.
Go to NADA and Kelley Blue Book - New & Used Car Price Values and see what the average trade in they compute....but you can always bet the dealer has a local "black book" they use for trade in values that are usually lower than the above sites....
Only reference I have is what I paid for my 2011 F350 Lariat DRW. Two years ago I paid 44k$CDN with all new rubber and 1.5yrs left on ext warr and FMPP. Using current conversion that's about 33k$US. Mileage was 42k miles when I got it.
When I trade I'm more concerned about the difference. To know what you're really getting you have to make a cash deal first and then bring the trade into the picture. If they were to charge list for the new one then trade value would look awesome.
I just bought a 2016 F350 SD 6.7L 15 days ago. It really depends on the whole deal. They can sell you the new one at MSRP and offer you $15K more on your trade, or vice-versa. What really matters is the price difference that you are going to finance. But if you made your deal on the truck first and are now working on the trade-in, then go with NADA or KBB. I went to several dealers and walked out or told them no on call-backs for 2 weeks before I got the deal I wanted. FORD.COM actually has a "value my trade-in" calculator on their site. I used their high-end trade-in price and figured out what I wanted the price difference to be on the new truck. I told all the dealers I spoke with or visited what I wanted to pay. I didn't waiver and eventually got the deal I wanted on the truck I wanted
Personally, I'd be happy with the $32k, I didn't get much more than that for my 2011 LAST YEAR... I had 40k miles on mine. But you have to research it and see what trucks are going for in your area. What helped me out is that where I bought it and registered the truck there was no sales tax. So I saved thousands on that side of the purchase compared to the offer I had in Florida before I left - plus I drove it from Florida to Alaska. Lucky that you only owe $4k - means the new one should have a decent/affordable monthly payment. I also got some benefits like you did after the sale - a good deal on the extended warranty, a $200 gas card, they followed me to the fuel station one day and topped my empty tank off for another $140. (Diesel was almost $5 a gal at the time).
FWIW, like they say when trading in, is the game. I had already made the deal on the new one, so I knew I wasn't gonna get an inflated trade in. And my area is tough to sell a $35 - $40k pickup on my own.
They say things happen for a Reason. Someone replied to this post and suggested that I check NADA. By doing so I learned that the $1500 Ford incentive for the 2016 Truck was going to expire on 11/2/15. Something that the Dealer who ordered my truck did not see fit to tell me. I decided to check some other Dealers in the area, and found a Blue Jeans fully loaded F250 6.7 just like the one that I had just ordered. We rushed over there this Morning and got the Truck for a great price. Far less than the previous dealer had quoted us. And the Icing on the cake was the 2011 Trade. We washed down the 11 this Morning, and drove it over to the Lot. I held off until we had a good deal with the numbers Then we talked Trade. Without me saying a word, the Sales Manager offered $ 37.500. My Wife was smiling as we finished the Paper Work. I now have a Beautiful new 2016 F250 Diesel sitting in my Driveway. It's too dark to take pictures now, but I will Post some Tomorrow. Guess I will have to call the other Dealer and Cancel the order. Thanks to all who replied with great Advise...................Lew
What a great story, congratulations on the new truck!
It was snowing the day that I made the deal on my 2015. Car wash next to my dealer. Washed the 2011 truck in the snow storm and again a day later when I closed on the 2015. I keep my trucks clean and in nice condition. Wanted to insure the dealer could see this when they were evaluating the 2011.
Picture of new 2015 truck after a test ride. Still love the way this truck looks.
