Leaking up pipes cause high egts?

Mine are original. I had to put dp tuner back to stock mode from 60hp tow tune to get up a long grade. Did this at 1200 degrees at 45 mph. Can't afford the hydra right now. No leaks but my aftermarket vp ic boots are soft as a pair of old *******. Thanks for any help.

How many RPM's were you turning when it happened?

How much did your EGT's drop after you went to stock?

Were you monitoring EOT? or anything else like IPRDC or FIPW or boost?

I was about 2500 to 2600 rpm. 10 mile incline. I know the egt dropped but I was so white knuckled I didn't remember what they dropped too. Those abbreviations your using is a differ language to me.

Although those rpm's are relatively high, your truck should be producing the most horsepower at around 2700-2900 rpm's. That is also where it should be flowing the most air if your boost numbers are good. IPRDC= injection pressure regulator duty cycle. FIPW= fuel injection pulse width...should not go above around 3.0 ms.

EOT=Engine oil temp...is a good indicator of overall engine temp with the exception of EGT's...good job on backing out of the 60hp tow tune and going to stock. Some tow tunes are not written for towing.....you may have found one but we won't know until we can see some other numbers.

You will need some way of monitoring those in order for us to assist you.

Thanks for all that. I run the scan gauge 2 but not sure how accurate they are and what they can monitor on my rig.

Here are the PID's I got from Lanier Logic a month or so ago when we were going back and forth about a PID Issue:

BEFORE people chime in on the ECT and A/T - LL and I discussed this back and forth for hours.

Thanks Thomas. What should I be monitoring on the scan gauge when I tow? It only reads 4 things at a time. I have a boost and egt gauge as well

Not sure if it's been answered yet, but yes, leaking up pipes will give high EGTs. Usually it is worn up pipe gaskets, aka donuts. Look for soot on the uppipes or the firewall. Which is easier said than done. I prefer the thicker Chebby exhaust donut over the stock gasket. More material plus they crush more. Slather them with anti sieze. Don't over torque the little bitty bolts and give them another turn after a few heat cycles. Felpro 8194 IIRC.

Bellowed up pipes are best if the budget allows, or if the pipes themselves are worn beyond sealing. My pipes were kinda sketchy but the Felpro's have held up well on mine.
