2000 Expedition ignition intermittent
My 2000 Expedition is having random intermittent ignition cut-outs. When it does cut out, the tachometer jumps all over the place, but all other elect systems (lights, radio, windows, etc.) are not affected. If it gets to the point of engine stoppage, when I attempt to restart, it cranks just fine but will not fire - until I let it rest for about a minute, then it starts right up. I have read a lot of the electrical horror stories (related to poor factory sealing of the windshield and water leaking into the fuse boxes), but my problems seem unrelated. My fuse boxes all appear fine inside. Also, the check engine lt hasn't come on either. I have read about some issues with pinched/chaffed wires in the eng. compartment so I looked there to no avail. I'm now left with a car that I can't sell or drive because of the unreliability.

Thanks for your input. I pulled the electrical connector off the sensor and found that it was full of oil, while the entire surrounding area was dry. This makes me think that the sensor may have developed an internal crack thus allowing oil to enter the connector. I have used contact cleaner to remove the oil from the sensor and connector and will drive it around locally for awhile to see if that helped. If it fills with oil again, I'll replace it but that doesn't look like a fun job.
