I am in the planning stages of installing / upgrading my X's sound system.
This isn't the first time I've done an install like this before, but am running into a bit of trouble with the steering wheel controls.
I know there are options out there as far as interfacing, but my problem is finding the other harness.
To be more specific, I know if I pull my radio out, there are 2 harnesses back there. One is the one you get the kit and splice the after market radio into the factory harness. EASY I Know.
Now, do you guys know if ANYONE makes a harness that plugs into the other plug? I'm not a fan of cutting/splicing into factory wires. Most of the steering wheel control kits just require you splice with 2-3 pins on that other Plug and you should be set. I'd really love to just have another adapter that plugs into that harness so I can connect what I need.
Really hope you guys understand what I need and can help!
This looks to be a inline jumper harness for aftermarket source integration, it has both ends on it. I would just cut it and reposition pins as needed. Could also be used for other integration purposes as it gives accesses to the RES circuits, like the OEM DVD audio feeds. The small white plug is the male side and would plug into the truck, and the black is the female side that plugs into the OE head unit. with the molex style connector plugging into the aux source box. You would just cut off the pigtail and the white plug and use what you need.
I know that the usa spec ipod connectors come with a big harness with both plugs, male and female. Problem is I can't find one online, just the whole kit. Maybe give them a call and see if they are willing to sell you just the harness. Then you can just cut off the ones you don't need.
I ordered a kit years ago that came with two plugs but I never pulled the radio to check which ones it was. Now I can't find the kit. Getting ready to install my new head unit and I have the pwc adapter so looks like I'll be soldering. Side rant, it pisses me off that every parts store sells solder and none of them sell Flux anymore. Wtf.
