So I found out today that BF Goodrich discontinued the 33x12.50x16.5 All-Terrain T/A KO Tires. I only need one tire (the spare) but haven't had any luck with any of the big name tire stores.
Anyone else have this problem? Have you found a company that still makes this size tire?

Unless you find some New Old Stock then I think Interco is your only option.
I just checked out their website and they don't carry 16.5 rim size,
You probably only looked under the default tire to come up (SS-M16). At the top of the page look at the pictures of the tires and scroll right till you see the TrXus. They make the MT and the STS in 16.5. There are a bunch of other Interco tires that come in 16.5 as well.
16.5 has been slowly dying for a long time for a variety of reasons (bead retention, liability, and the large brake assemblies on new trucks being probably the three main ones) and anymore your options are pretty much limited to new old stock, interco, or trailer tires. Last time I checked, Firestone was still selling a 16.5 transforce as well which is a decent tire. Long term though, you'll be better served buying a set of used stock wheels and going back to 16's.

I was looking at the STS but the smallest size is a 36 in the 16.5" rim. I am looking for a tire that is comparable to the BF Goodrich All-Terrain 33 x 12.50 x 16.5. My Excursion is used mostly for river trips which I think the Girlfriend would kill me if we drove the 4 to 5 hour trip with Mud tires. I do a little bit of off-road and snow driving so an All-Terrain is really what I need. Vortrac looks comparable to the BF Goodrich but still no 33 x 16.5. I sent them an e-mail to see if they can steer me in the right direction. Thanks for the lead.

I hear ya, I have been dreading this for a long time. I will probably just change the rims for a long-term solution.
Is there any benefit to the 16.5 other than the fact you already have it?
Not really, I just like the rims that I have on it now (they came with the Ex when i bought it used). Their Centerlines and would be expensive to buy but I may look for some used or overstock.
BTW...I got an email back.
You would have to go up to a 35x12.50r16.5 Vortrac, otherwise you would have to choose a mud terrain in the size of 33x12.50r16.5. thanks, Pattie
I am rethinking this again because it's getting closer to having to make a change. So to help with my decision is there anyone that is running the Interco tire: 33x12.50R16.5LT, TrXus MT Radial? I have never run a Mud Tire and though the ad say's they're not loud I am wondering if this is true or not. So just looking for some comments about wear and noise.
Keep in mind most of my driving in this truck is a 4 hour trip to the river, launching the boat, a little dirt trail driving and a drive up to the mounts a couple times a year during the wintertime with maybe some snow here and there.
I chewed through the TrXus damn fast on my Jeep, can't imagine an Excursion. They wore alright, just quickly. Never let me down off-road, balanced easily enough, etc. But 25k and they were gone.
I think you just need to get over the wheels you have now and bite the bullet, you've seen yourself how long and hard one was to dig around to find a 16.5" tire. That, and I'd be interested to see the production date on any tires you DO find... 8 years and Discount and most other big name places won't even rotate them. So that's something else to consider with NOS tires.

I hear ya I just wanted to give Trxus a shot if they weren't to loud. I spoke to 4Wheelparts and American Tire and they can both get them. 4Wheelparts didn't have anything negative to say about them but the guy that I am dealing with at American Tire say's he doesn't recommend them because they would be hard to balance (however he's not familiar with them and he thought they were a bias ply not a radial tire).
