Exclamation Betty's got no brakes

Hi Ya'll, got a 83 f250 6.9 diesel and Les Schwabs said my rotors were bad, well, the next place said rotors were fine but needed a booster and master cylinder. fine cool did that, well we've completely redone the front brakes only to discover hmmm no suck for the vacuum booster. Should I just replace the vacuum pump? or is there a shade tree secret that I can use to fix it?

thanks!

Test your vacuum pump with a gauge, just don't replace it *****-nilly and hope that was the problem.

On my truck the main rubber line comes from the pump on the pass side down low, and runs up onto the pass side inner fender and around to the vacuum tree. Where the line lays on the inner fender it likes to rub a hole in it so check that.

But with no vacuum you still should have brakes. With no vacuum the pedal will be very hard and stiff, but it should be high and be able to stop the truck(may take two feet on the pedal).

yes, there are "brakes" the two feet kind and this truck is a Manual transmission and i will be hauling a camping trailer and a catering trailer so I need to have REAL braking power. I've replaced everything, the only thing left is vacuum pump. we disconnected the hose from the pump and there wasn't any kind of pull, do you know if I can get a loaner of the gauge to determine the "suck" of the vacuum? again, the only things that haven't been replaced are the rotors and the vacuum pump, my mechanic who does the really scary stuff for me is pretty certain that this is the problem. I'm REALLY excited to get Betty on the road and playing in the dirt.

If you have no suction from the pump, it's the problem.
