Whats the consensus on lockout hubs today, here?
I see old threads where people recommend the warn prems still and Mile Marker. I've read that Yukons are the top dog these days.
I've read some are still happy with their NOS.
Instead of necroing an old thread since materials and country of origins change.
I'm basically looking for a good bang for the buck.
Yukons are out of my price range pretty much. I'm not out wheeling hard either.
Basically the worst the truck will probably ever see is old draft horse skid steer roads. those are pretty rugged though in some places.
The warn prem's seem reasonably priced enough but are they still good? Superwinch is also priced well with decent reviews.
MileMarkers also seem have good reviews and well priced and reading here the MM and warn's are the same besides name and price.
my warn premiums have never failed me. the set on the 88 are at least 20 rears old, and the set on the 02 are 8 years old. bs on the 04 get stiff, it will be getting warns also.
We have been using AVM's for all our trucks, even the F-550's when ever the auto's fail. There cheap take about 15 minutes to install, and have not had one fail, and we plow commercial were they are used all the time, never had a problem, easy to turn and lock require no lube, as they are sealed and they are cheap. They will be going on my truck when mine fail, never had such success with a low buck product. I keep 2 sets on the self at all times, for when the factory ones fail. We run over 30 fords in our fleet from 99's to 2015's just got 2 will be getting 2 more next week, waiting for them to come in black, boss is tired of buying new trucks and then painting and lettering them. So he is ordering all new trucks in black, then just the lettering.

Most of the posts I have read are from 2010 and all say good things about warns. My concern, have they cheapened/changed up in the last 5ish years?
David7.3: AVM's never heard of em, Seemed priced similar to the Warns. But I'm searching for more on them and suppliers.
I put a new set of Warn Economys on my '97 about 2 years ago. I didn't like them because they didn't stay disengaged reliably (they are spring-loaded to the "lock" position with a detent to hold them in the "free" position, but the detent wasn't strong enough). So I replaced them with Warn Premiums a little over a year ago. I'm happy enough with them, but I haven't abused them enough to know how tough they are (and I don't plan to abuse them on this truck). Warn Premiums aren't cheap, and I've always thought they were harder to get a grip on and turn than they ought to be (especially in the winter when you pretty much have to take your gloves off when you really don't want to). It seems like there's got to be an easier-to-use, less expensive option that's still plenty good. But at least they've never let me down (I've had 5 sets now, going back to about '92)

This is good info to know and I appreciate it. I'm not going for cheapest, just work as they should and not corrode if possible.
Some of these brands are very close in the price point too.
I was planning on buying the warn prem's before I made this thread, but wanted to get more recent feedback as the threads on warns seemed to be 3 yrs old or so.
Does your 79 have the factory spicer hubs that are all steel inside? They far superior to most of the aftermarket ones, as long as you are staying with a stock spline count stub axle. The Yukon design is loosely based on the Spicer one.
From 80 until 94ish the factory installed hubs with 6 retaining bolts, and with the red or black dial that look suspiciously like Warn standards, are just that.
On a Dana 44, there is a significant difference between a Premium and standard Warn hub, on a D50/D60, the slug is the same, with only the cap and dial being different.

But the difference in the cap and dial is HUGE. As I said above, the Standards spring load to the "Lock" position with a detent to hold it "Free" vs the Premiums almost full turn, no spring load and maybe a slight detent in both positions. In 5 sets of Premiums I've never had one come out of the position I put it in. In one set of Standards I had one hub that wouldn't stay in the "Free" position.

I'm not exactly sure what is installed on there now. I don't see any visible markings to ID it. It appears it could be a factory type as it does appear to be a warn standard without any decals, I understand there would have been a ford decal in place instead of the warn. I'm just guessing though, first timer here. It has the same 1/4 turn free/lock as well.
Passenger side plastic dial requires pliars to turn now and the hub covering appears to be corroding. Since I have a bad axle seal on that side, I figure it all needs replaced. So I'm gathering up a good parts list.
I thought my warn lock outs took a crap, 2 years old at the time. I got a new set under the lifetime warranty, installed them.... Only to find out I blew the spider gears in my front diff.... Whoops. Obviously I beat the crap out of my truck off roading. 38s, heavy right foot and a D50 don't go together
