1988 Ranger leaks water onto passenger feet after heavy rain
My 1988 Ranger has started leaking a gush of water onto the feet of passengers the first time I accelerate after a heavy rain. I saw the water flowing out from behind the glove box area as I started driving forward. Any ideas on how to fix this leak?
on 1988 pull the fan motor out and vacumn all the dirt and leaves out of there..... clean the outlet out that lets water and condensation drip out under neath truck,,,, and on my old 88 i had years ago i put gutter screen across the vents on the cowling to keep leaves being sucked in,,, the 88s had slits in the cowling the 89s went to holes to stop the problem you might be getting
I hope it's just a backup of leaves/debris as KF4EYR mentioned. The best way to access those 2 drain points for cleaning is to remove the fenders, although that's a small project in itself. The first gen firewalls did have issues rusting out though. This thread might be helpful as you work to pinpoint the source; especially the photos in post #16. Hope you get it figured out.https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...st-damage.html
fan motor is under hood,,, a little pia is to unhook the radiator hose from the heater core and under dash takeing cover off of heater core and takeing core out and cleaning space out.... make sure to clean drip hole out under truck... i have changed heater cores on 1988 rangers before not a bad job just it is under dash,,,,just some screws and glove box removal,,,but about everytime i took it out it would be full of leaves,,,,,88 had slits on cowl that let everything in,,,in 1989 they changed to holes on the cowl,,,,, here a while back had a 2001 blazer come in saying the air would get hot then the fan quit working,,, pulled fan out and checked it it was fine,, looked down in the core area there sat a mexican fruit juice plastic bottle wedged in the door and sticking out just enough to catch the fan and stop it,,,, got it all cleaned out,, they said it was fixed...aint no telling how long that bottle was in there or how it got there...
