302 oil pan style

Did Ford use the front sump or rear sump style in these trucks from the factory? (2WD if it makes a difference)

I'm asking because the engine that's in my truck, which isn't original, has the dual (rear) sump oil pan, while I thought front-sump was correct. But for the new engine I'm building, I bought a front-sump pan, and eyeballing it, I'm worried that the drain plug may end up above the crossmember.

Ah ... I figured it out. They used a front-sump 6-quart pan in the trucks as opposed to the front-sump 5-quart pan for cars. Only the latter appears to be available new or used these days. Maybe I can use a valve & hose for oil drains to avoid draining onto the crossmember and making a complete mess. Guess I need to do some more measuring.

The drain will end up over the crossmember. Consider modifying the oil pan drain location or get a Fumoto valve and its accessory drain hose.

Thanks. I'm glad I figured it out while the engine's still on the stand in the garage, rather than the first time I went to do an oil change!

Hmm ... looks like I'll have about 1" of vertical clearance to work with. I can't find any dimensions on the Fumoto valves listed anywhere online ... has anyone here used one and know how long it is? Would hate to buy one then have it not fit with enough room for a hose to make the bend...

I guess an alternative could be a remote oil drain system designed for marine applications, where there's an elbow/hose at the oil pan end.
