My 2011 just blew with 70,000 on it. Ford giving me issues on it since I just bought it used in december from a Dodge dealership. Yep just bought it, new starter, nox sensor, computer module blew, now this. Oh, and a new oil pan...drain plug fell out the day after I bought it. Now a blown motor

 

Your truck should still be under warrenty. I know they don't look at a 2nd owner the same as a purchasing owner. But they have to honor their warranty. If its a valve failure. If its due to bad fuel well thats a different story. Which is it by the way?

 

I don't know how ford is at fault for a drain plug being improperly installed unless you can prove one of their techs did it.

I find it strange how many stories I've heard, not just here, but in real life, about someone forgetting the oil drain plug, or not tightening it enough, and oil draining out and killing the engine.
It also seems the shop answer is always deny they had anything to do with it.

I guess I'm just surprised it EVER happens lol.

Sidebar: Grew up rural ranch, Texas. IF you drove a Ford we called you a share cropper, ranch and farm trucks were either a GMC or Chevy, which dominated sales. In Tex we sell more truck than cars and still do. Somewhere in there Ford got the message that if you could take the Tex market you would own the US market and the rest is history. Lot of speculation on how they pulled it off, but the cabs on Fords the roof is higher and its higher because...we wear HATS in Texas, so they made the roof line higher so we could wear out cowboy hats...if you ask me, its works!

While I am brand loyal, that is because my brand is a Corvette and Chevy V8 power, the rest of Chevy, don't care. I bought my '09 Ford F 350 because I had bought a truck camper and needed a truck to go under it. I got such a deal on my '09 F 350 I could not turn it down. It was at a Ford dealer in Scottsdale Az and like a lot of city dealers trucks were more of a sideline. They had taken in back in trade for a mustang, by a friend of the owner. I had stopped to look at F 350's and discovered this at the back of the lot. I asked about it and the sales guy did not know anything about it, found out it was leaving out that eve going to auction. They made me a screaming deal. Good truck.

Traded in my '09 on a new '11, got $500 more than I paid for the '09 ($35k out the door). Loved my '11, traded it in on an ordered '15 Dually KR. LOVE IT, power is AMAZING, makes my '11 look weak. I do not have even a 1000 miles on it, so stay tuned.

A word on Ford trucks: I am an engineer, former automotive engineer. When it came time to buy a truck for my camper and it has been since the 80's when I last owned a truck, I put on my engineering hat and looked at Dodge, GMC/Chevy and Ford (LAST!). My wife is also an engineer, but as a woman her key point was the interior.

Both of us picked Ford over the other brands, her for the interior me for capabilities of the truck.

One thing I have noticed, you can HEAR a Dodge coming, they are loud. Chevy, can't hear it because they have nothing to hear. I have noticed my '15 is louder than my '11, especially when you get on it, you can hear the diesel gulping air. As an old drag racer, its music to my ears.

sorry this is happening .. the way ford markets these rigs, this shouldn't happen on a 70k miles truck. unfortunately buying used you never know how the previous owner treated it. unfortunately i know how this feels first hand with a used f150 who's engine self destructed on a road trip a few years back.

when you say blown motor what exactly is the problem? pistons rods? cracked block? only curious

 

Don't know. Service manager wanted to save me money and pulled the pan first. Main bearing material all inside. They proposed $2,300 to pull and inspect, and maybe tell me won't be covered under warranty, lack of lubrication??? Motor blew, 70,000, covered to 100,000 fix it !

 

Warranty from any manufacturer is intended to cover for manufacturer DEFECTS. FYI, on specifically only 2011 model year 6.7 engines, the oil pan is made of plastic with a yellow 1/4 turn drain plug intended to make for easier servicing. In my experience these drain plugs remove very easily, as well as tighten very easily. If the engine failed, due to improper installation of the plug by the previous servicing tech (which it HAS TO be) causing the engine oil to drain out and the ensuing engine failure, how is this considered the fault of the manufacturer?

Here, he posts that the Dodge dealership accepted responsibility for the oil issue and is paying the repair bill. Hopefully, he means for the engine replacement.

 

Yeah, this is the dodge dealers service dept issue. I see a new crate motor as the repair.

The dodge dealer will have to farm it out to a ford dealer is my guess.
