Exhaust Manifold Leak at intake/exhaust connection
Upon reinstalling my intake/exhaust manifolds, I have an exhaust manifold leak that seems to come from where the two manifolds join together? Is there any trick to reattaching these? Initially there was no gasket between them but I have tried with a gasket and without and cannot get the leak to stop? I have followed directions I have seen posted- finger tighten the 3 bolts together and only tighten after torquing the manifolds to the head. But still have this leak.
Thanks to you all for your advice! Unfortunately I cannot see exactly where the leak is. After taking it all apart again, it looks like the trouble is galled threads on one of the 3 exhaust manifold bolt holes. It would not let the bolt thread far enough down. I am re-assmblying and will let you know if this was it.
It was the threads. After cleaning the threads, the bolt now tightened correctly and no more leak. Here is the picture I tried to post before. Thanks again for all the advice!
