I have the 1988 F150 xlt Lariat with the 300/i6 and 5 speed tranny. I pull a 6x6.5x12 ft enclosed trailer and have been for about 1 year now.
I developed an exhaust leak and thought my donut joint worked itself loose. I found out that there is no donut gasket used and examined closer that it was my exhaust manifold leaking mainly towards the front half.
Has anyone experienced this and what was the fix for it.
I've been told three things.
a. remove the exhaust and intake and have the surface shaved.
or b. Just add an exhaust gasket.
or c. Install a new exhaust manifold(s).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
are you saying its leaking between the head and exhaust manifold? I've not worked on any fuel injected 300's but I assume they still use the combination intake & exhaust manifold gasket, if so just try changing the gasket, I know on the carbed 300's I seen some leak between the flange where the intake & exhaust manifold fastened together,( a four bolt flange )
